  1. Excellent drawing! Do you go straight in with a pen, or do you do a pencil sketch first? Something like this would definitely require a pencil for me! I find objects with hard surfaces so much more difficult to do than people, which I find funny since so many people say just the opposite!

  2. Thanks, folks. Raena, these are drawn directly with pen. If I’m trying to be accurate, I find I have to pay careful attention to the shape, angle, and negative space relationships between the parts of the subject. I do like drawing people, but I don’t currently have a good place to unobtrusively observe unsuspecting models. They’re the best, because I’m freed from the burden of having to flatter them or make a good likeness. 🙂

  3. Every one of these is a gem! Your lines are so deliberate and sure. I’m with Rena in that I also find hard surfaced objects much harder than people to draw. I’d love to be able to do it, tho! nancy

  4. Great drawings. So what have you been doing with yourself since 1981? No drawings to post between then and now. Have you just started drawing again? You need to blog about your small hiatus and where you’re going with your art now.

  5. Thanks, all.

@ Marsha: In my defense, there is a sketch or two from 1986, 1996, 1999, and 2008 in the rest of the blog. (See the Categories sidebar on the home page.) But I guess it was a combination of raising a family, being busy with full-time and part-time work, being involved with other interests, and slowly succumbing to the insidious feeling that drawing has become devalued in the world.
